With ORBIS TSS and mobile solution: PERI optimizes processes in outdoor storage and increases logistics performance

ORBIS AG has successfully introduced the SAP-based ORBIS Transport Control System (ORBIS TSS) and a mobile solution, which are fully integrated into the existing SAP Warehouse Management System (SAP WM), at the 100,000 square meter outdoor storage area of PERI GmbH in Weißenhorn. PERI, a manufacturer of formwork and scaffolding, is thus creating a dialog-based data and document flow with continuous processes in its outdoor warehouse, bringing transparency and flexibility to warehouse management. Thanks to the competence of the ORBIS experts as well as the excellent cooperation and high commitment of all involved, the implementation including the integration of the hardware components and the setup of the network infrastructure for the mobile application was completed in eight months.

With the very easy-to-use ORBIS solution, the training of new employees and their integration into the warehouse processes has been significantly shortened, so that the handling capacity can now be increased as needed during order peaks within a shorter period of time. The forklifts are also utilized to the fullest, as transport orders are automatically assigned to the drivers via a touchscreen terminal mounted on the vehicle on which the solution is installed.

Since ORBIS TSS displays the storage location and loading quantity for each order and optimizes the transport routes, the drivers are directed directly to the location, pick up the containers and bring them to the destination storage location as quickly as possible. Mix-ups or incorrect loading are virtually impossible, because each container is provided with a barcode that the forklift driver scans with a reader. The scanned data is immediately transferred to SAP WM, where it is compared with the stored information with regard to the current storage location, the available quantity and the current status. Once a transfer order has been completed, ORBIS TSS determines the follow-up order based on the requirement dates and according to the operational urgency. The processes in the outdoor storage area, which PERI reorganized as part of the implementation, are now being further improved and additional processes are being integrated into ORBIS TSS step by step.

ORBIS AG will be presenting its SAP-based solutions for intralogistics at this year's LogiMAT (March 08-10, 2016) in Stuttgart in Hall 7 at stand 7D45. The focus is on Industry 4.0 in logistics.
