CLAAS introduces ORBIS PCC:

CLAAS, one of the world's leading manufacturers of agricultural machinery, has introduced the ORBIS Product Cost Calculator (ORBIS PCC) with great success. This SAP-based add-on, which is easy to use and fully integrated into the SAP ERP system, enables the company to carry out product cost calculation throughout the development process in an IT-supported, standardized, transparent and very high quality manner. This is a business-critical factor for CLAAS: In the case of a new development, which can take up to six years, several tens of thousands of individual items often have to be calculated as part of the costing process, depending on the product group and model.

The benefits of switching to ORBIS PCC became apparent soon after going live. Since many activities can now be performed more easily and tightly, business users are left with more room for tasks such as optimizing costing in terms of quality and profitability. The add-on directly accesses current prices, tariffs, overhead rates and exchange rates in the SAP ERP solution from CLAAS, so that calculations take significantly less time. The fact that the assemblies of a combine harvester or forage harvester can be calculated in varying degrees of detail, depending on the number of parts to be taken over, also helps to speed up the process. Thanks to the fact that ORBIS PCC automatically works with the latest SAP data and has been expanded for CLAAS to include a PLM parts list import, each calculation can be quickly updated - during the year as well as in the course of the fiscal year change.

In addition, the add-on supports cross-departmental collaboration within the scope of costing. Data entered into the add-on flows immediately into the SAP software, which processes it immediately, and is thus available to the downstream processes in purchasing or work preparation in a timely manner. Simulations that can accurately forecast manufacturing costs at an early stage strengthen the purchasing department's position in negotiations with suppliers. With a feature developed especially for CLAAS, which will be adopted as a standard function in ORBIS PCC in the future so that all customers can benefit from it, costing comparisons can be made down to the individual item level. The user interface has also been adapted to the requirements of the agricultural machinery manufacturer: All the data required for a calculation is brought together under a special button.

In addition to the full integration into SAP ERP and the flexibility with regard to customizations, the decisive factor for choosing the ORBIS Product Cost Calculator was, above all, the attractive price of the license model. Thanks to the high level of consulting and process expertise of the ORBIS experts and the cooperative partnership between all parties involved, the implementation at the three German manufacturing sites was completed in just under six months and within the estimated budget. The next step will be the rollout to the production companies worldwide, and further adjustments and extensions are already planned.
