MES Suite 2.0 from ORBIS receives "SAP Certified - Powered by SAP NetWeaver" certification

ORBIS MES 2.0, the Manufacturing Execution System from ORBIS AG in Saarbrücken, Germany, has received the "SAP Certified - Powered by SAP NetWeaver" certificate from SAP SE. The SAP Integration and Certification Center (SAP ICC) has thus confirmed that the ORBIS MES 2.0 solution fully meets the certification criteria of the ABAP add-on for the SAP NetWeaver Application System and ABAP 7.0. ORBIS MES 2.0 is able to exchange data bidirectionally with the SAP ERP application and is based on the SAP NetWeaver technology platform.

ORBIS MES 2.0 enables the creation of automated, IT-supported processes in production and intralogistics. The solution links and synchronizes the data and key figures from the shop floor with the commercial and logistical processes in the SAP ERP application, thus creating a digital, networked value chain - an important basis for Industry 4.0. All production-relevant data is available in the MES: from the production and serial orders, material and workpiece lists, work planning to drawings and their CNC/DNC programs for the individual production steps. The production and process data are reported back to the SAP system manually or automatically in "real time". In addition to the order-related production data, further information from quality management, maintenance or for personnel time recording is also determined and automatically integrated into the processes of the SAP ERP application. This bidirectional exchange can take place via both push and pull processes. For example, processes in a machine can be triggered automatically from a process in the SAP system or vice versa.

Thanks to this "real-time" integration of production processes, the use and utilization of machines, systems and personnel can be planned optimally and promptly, and controlled efficiently and flexibly. The ORBIS solution also supports intralogistics processes based on SAP solutions by integrating sensors, actuators and barcode and RFID technology. In this way, processes can be tracked and controlled seamlessly in "real time", from goods receipt and warehousing to picking and shipping.

Visualization of the information from these processes as well as the machinery and equipment in "real time" is possible anywhere and at any time on any device. This enables management and production managers, machine operators, workers, intralogistics staff, maintenance technicians, quality and HR managers to perform their tasks quickly and conveniently. Using the web-based, modern and intuitive user interface of ORBIS MES 2.0, which is based on the ORBIS Multi-Process Suite (ORBIS MPS), the "real-time data" from production and intralogistics can be displayed in a process-related, role-based and graphically clear manner, for example in the form of an OEE or KPI cockpit or value stream analyses. They provide those responsible with important information for optimizing the utilization of machines, systems and personnel, and for reducing throughput times and error rates, which has a positive effect on inventories and delivery reliability, among other things.

Since ORBIS MES 2.0 harmonizes with the process world of the SAP application, there are no costs for setting up and maintaining a separate IT infrastructure. However, it is also possible to install ORBIS MES 2.0. in parallel with the operational SAP ERP application to ensure increased reliability, for example during maintenance work on the SAP system. The IT departments also benefit, because they can adapt the ABAP-based solution with internal SAP know-how and further develop it as required. Since a separate namespace is reserved for the MES system in the SAP ERP application, it can be implemented on any installation of the SAP NetWeaver technology platform, with the documentation created by ORBIS complying with SAP's current guidelines. All data is backed up centrally in the SAP ERP application - from visualization and dialog data to all machine communication parameters.
