The international software and business consulting company ORBIS AG has introduced the solutions ORBIS MES and ORBIS Logistics at the STI Group, which are fully integrated into the existing SAP ERP system. The STI Group, a leading packaging and display manufacturer as well as a full-service partner for the presentation of goods at the point of sale (POS) in Europe, thus creates the conditions for digitally networked and industry 4.0-capable in production and intralogistics processes. Among other things, the deciding factor was that the ORBIS solutions best met the requirements and were 100 percent embedded in SAP ERP and thus release-compatible. In addition, the ORBIS experts convinced with their consulting, process and SAP know-how.
The use of the ORBIS MES in the shop floor ensures the status of the systems in the real-time view - set-up, production, fault, standstill, good and reject quantity - for unprecedented transparency. The MES replaces an out-of-date BDE system and paper-based processes that are not integrated into SAP ERP. It electronically records data and key figures from production, processes them automatically and visualizes them clearly at the plant, machine or workplace level as required.
Conversely, data entered in ORBIS MES flows into SAP ERP and is thus directly available in the subsequent processes. This benefits, among other things, the scheduling and production planning, which can now process processes more efficiently and promptly initiate measures. In all of this, ORBIS MES proves to be so flexible to standardize shop-floor processes across all plants - this is an important prerequisite for performance comparisons - and at the same time to reflect their specific characteristics.
The ORBIS MES was able to be introduced in compliance with the go-live deadline and the cost framework thanks to the cooperation of all parties involved and the commitment of the ORBIS consultants in the Lauterbach, Alsfeld, Grebenhain and Neutraubling systems. The key user structure that was already set up at the beginning, as well as the template-based rollout, which made a rapid implementation possible in the works, contributed significantly to the success of the MES project.
In order to optimize intralogistics and make it more efficient, STI has already introduced ORBIS Logistics in Lauterbach prior to the MES project. With this solution, which smoothly interacts with the MES, WIP stocks can now be displayed transparently; It also supports warehouse management and enables container-oriented transportation planning. Next up is the MES rollout in the STI plant in Petöfi, Hungary, and in Lauterbach the introduction of the SAP-based ORBIS planning tool for optimizing production planning and control.
How the STI Group networks and automates the processes in the digital factory with ORBIS MES and ORBIS Logistics, brought numerous visitors to the "Smart Factory Day", which took place on March 22, 2018 at STI in Lauterbach, in informative practical reports and convinced in the course of a factory tour.
